Overview

Robotics & Autonomous Systems

Robotics is where every other discipline on this page has to work together at once — perception, control, communication, and safety, all running in real time, often around people. We develop robotics software and autonomous system architectures for mobile robots, robotic arms, and AGVs/AMRs, built on frameworks like ROS2 and tuned for the reliability that industrial deployment demands.

Safety certification is non-negotiable in this space, especially in Germany, where machinery directives and functional safety standards are taken seriously and enforced accordingly. We design with ISO 13849 and IEC 61508 in mind from the start, not as a retrofit before certification.

Technical Approach

Our robotics development is built on ROS2 for its real time capable middleware and mature ecosystem, combined with sensor fusion across lidar, cameras, and inertial measurement units for reliable localization and mapping. For systems that share space with people, we design around safety rated controllers and follow the collaborative robot standards that govern force and speed limits during human robot interaction.

Robot density in Western Europe hit a record 267 units per 10,000 employees in 2024, and Germany’s own density has grown roughly 5 percent annually since 2019, reaching 449 units per 10,000 employees. Yet industry groups have flagged that Germany’s share of new robot installations is slipping relative to faster growing markets, which means the businesses that modernize their automation now, rather than waiting, stand to gain the most ground.

Machinery incorporating robotics falls under the EU Machinery Regulation, and collaborative robot applications specifically need to satisfy ISO 10218 and the related technical specification ISO/TS 15066 covering safe human robot collaboration. Where a robotic system includes AI for tasks like adaptive path planning or object recognition, the EU AI Act’s provisions for AI embedded in regulated products may also apply, currently scheduled to take effect from 2 August 2028 following the recent Omnibus timeline extension, and we track this classification closely as it continues to evolve.
